Xavier Espejo

Mr. So Cal Leather 2014

Xavier was born and raised in Lima, Peru. In 1997, at the age of 16, he and his family moved to Anaheim, CA to pursue a better life.

He attended the University of California, Irvine where he became involved as a LGBT Resource Center counselor. He provided support and information to students with identity development and coming out issues through frank, informal, and one-on-one conversations. He also was a member of the LGBT Speaker’s Bureau, sharing his experiences as a LGBT individual through group panels and workshops for students, faculty and community members.

After graduating from UCI, Xavier moved to Long Beach where he quickly became active in the community. In 2010, he co-chaired the Mr. Gay Long Beach and Mr. Gay OC competitions and raised money for the Long Beach C.A.R.E. (Comprehensive AIDS Resource Education) Program and the OC AIDS Foundation.

Ever since Xavier discovered leather and kink at the age of 22, he has attended several leather events and festivals, and has been in many leather scenes. However, it wasn’t until late 2013 that he decided to become active in the community. He chose to run for the Mr. So Cal Leather title because he considers himself a spiritual yet sexual person and those fit the description of Ashram West, the organization behind his title.

He hopes that the exposure his title brings will better enable him to shorten the generation gap that exists in our community. He is also eager to learn more about the community and leather play and in the future become a mentor to other men thus making the LA Leather Community a more diverse and stronger community.

He lives with his partner of five years and their two puppies in Sherman Oaks. Xavier works doing Safety Operations in the pharmaceutical field, and is currently pursuing his MBA at the University of Redlands.
